Adao ou Cristo? Onde tenho colocado minha fe? - Adam or Christ? Where have I laid my faith?

Na postagem anterior, eu disse que daria mais exemplos sobre como Jesus lidou com a lei durante seu ministerio. Contudo, eu tive alguns pensamentos nesses ultimos dias que, eu acredito, seria importante compartilhar.

I said in the previous post that I would give more examples about how Jesus dealt with the law during his ministry. However, I had a few thoughts that, I believe, I should rather share.

Durante a copa do mundo, os 11 jogadores brasileiros no campo estao representando toda a nacao (por volta de 200 milhoes de pessoas). Quando eles vencem, nos vencemos. Se eles perderem, nos perdemos. Em outras palavras, nós nos apropriamos das vitoria e derrotas do nosso time. Voce ja pensou desta forma: Eu nao estava no campo passando a bola, suando, me sujando ou me machucando, entao eu nao mereco o titulo de campeao? Claro que nao! Nos gritamos, dancamos e celebramos como se nos fossemos os goleadores do jogo!

During the soccer world cup, the 11 Brazilian players on the field are representing the entire nation (about 200 million people). When they win, we win.  If they lose, we lose.  In other words, we accept their victory and their loss as our own. Have you ever thought like this: I was not on the field passing the ball, sweating, getting dirt or injured, therefore I don’t deserve to call myself a winner? Of course not! We scream, we dance and celebrate OUR victory, as if we were the ones who score all the goals!

Da mesma forma, por que algumas pessoas acham tao dificil aceitar o fato de que Jesus cumpriu todos os requerimentos da lei por nos? E verdade que nos nao estavamos presentes quando tudo aconteceu, mas Jesus estava representando todos nos. Isso significa que a Vitoria dEle  a nossa Vitoria. Pela fe nos fomos feitos justos diante de Deus.

Accordingly, why some people find very difficult to accept the fact that Jesus fulfill all the requirements of the law on their behalf?  It is true that we were not there when it happened, but Jesus was representing all of us. This means that His victory is our victory.  Through faith we are made right in God’s sight.

Nos merecemos celebrar e nos entitular “os campeoes do mundo” mesmo que nao tivessemos empenhado nenhum esforco para conquistar o titulo? Nao, nos nao merecemos! Nos nao vencemos, os jogadores venceram! Todavia, o fato deles terem escolhido representar a nacao, noa garantiu o direito de fazer do sucesso deles o nosso sucesso! Da mesma forma, nos nao merecemos receber justificacao sem ter conquistador com nossos esforcos. Contudo, Jesus Escolheu ser nosso representante e pela graca, todos que colocarem sua fe nEle, serao justificados diante de Deus.

Do we deserve to celebrate and call ourselves “world champions” if we didn’t apply any self-effort towards winning the title? No we don’t! We didn’t win, the players did! However, the fact that they chose to represent the nation, gives us the right to make their success ours! Likewise, we don’t deserve to be made righteous without doing anything to earn it. But Jesus Chose to be our representative and by grace, all who believe in Him shall be made right in God’s sight.

Eu gostaria de erguer um outro ponto: nós nao temos nenhum problema em aceitar o fato de que um so pecado de Adao, fez com que todos nós nos tornassemos pecadores. Entao, por que achamos tao dificil aceitar que um ato de Jesus em cumprir a lei nos trouxe justificacao? Podemos concluir que o ato de Adao foi muito mais poderoso do que o que o de Jesus? Claro que nao! Como o apostolo Paulo escreveu:

I would like to make another point: we have no problem believing that Adam’s one act of sin made all of us sinners.  So, why do we find so hard to believe that Jesus one act of fulfilling the law brought righteousness to all? Was Adam’s action more powerful then Jesus’? Of course not! As the Apostle Paul wrote:

“Sim, um unico pecado de Adao trouxe condenacao sobre todos, mas um unico ato de justica de Cristo nos tornou justos diante de Deus e nos deu vida. Porque uma pessoa desobedeceu a Deus, muitos se tornaram pecadores. Mas porque uma pessoa obedeceu a Deus, muitos serao justificados diante de Deus”. (Romanos 5:18-19 – NLT Traducao direta Simone van der Merwe).

“Yes, Adam's one sin brought condemnation upon everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness makes all people right in God's sight and gives them life. Because one person disobeyed God, many people became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many people will be made right in God's sight”. (Romans 5:18-19 – NLT)

Se tentarmos conquistar aquilo que ja nos foi dado por Deus, nós estaremos caindo no mesmo erro de Adao. Primeiro, no Jardim do Eden, o diabo desprestigiou a autoridade de Deus, quando ele sugeriu que a Palavra de  Deus nao era totalmente verdadeira:

If we try to earn what has been already given by God, we are failing just as Adam did! First, in the Garden of Eden, the devil degraded God’s authority by implying that God’s word weren’t entirely true:

      

       “(…) Deus falou que nao devemos comer, ou ate mesmo tocar no fruto, ou nós morreremos. ‘Voces nao morrerao!’ Sussurrou a serpent”. (Genesis 3:3-4 – NLT Traducao direta Simone van der Merwe)

“(…) God says we must not eat it or even touch it, or we will die. ‘You won't die!’ the serpent hissed”. (Genesis 3:3-4)

Em Segundo lugar, eles comeram por conta da promessa que eles receberam da serpente: “(…) voces serao como Deus (…)” (Genesis 3:5 – NLT – Traducao direta Simone van der Merwe)

Second, they ate because of the promise they received by the serpent: “(…) you will become just like God (…)” (Genesis 3:5 – NLT).

Eles ja eram como Deus! Eles foram criados a imagem e semelhanca de Deus: “Entao Deus falou, ‘facamos pessoas na nossa imagem, para serem como nós’ (…)”. (Genesis 1:26 – NLT - Traducao direta Simone van der Merwe)

They were already just like God! They were created in the likeness of God: “Then God said, "Let us make people in our image, to be like ourselves (…)”. (Genesis 1:26 - NLT)

Eles estavam tentando conquistar aquilo que ja os pertencia, porque eles nao creram na Palavra que Deus falou. Pela desobediencia deles, eles foram banidos do DESCANSO encontrado no Jardim. Eles estavam amaldicoados, o que os levou a TRABALHAR: “Por toda a suas vidas voces suarao para produzir seu sustento, ate o dia da sua morte (…)”. (Genesis 3:19 – NLT – Traducao  direta Simone van der Merwe)

They were trying to get what was already theirs, because they didn’t believe in the Word God spoke. For their disobedience, they were banished from the REST provided by the Garden. They were now cursed, which led them into WORKS: “All your life you will sweat to produce food, until your dying day (…)”. (Genesis 3:19)

Sejamos diligentes para nao tropecarmos no mesmo erro! Vamos escolher cre no que a Palavra de Deus diz. Nao vamos tentar adquirir justificacao atraves nas nossas tentativas de cumprir a lei, uma vez que nos ja somos justos atraves da fe em Jesus. Acreditar dessa verdade nos fara entrar novamente naquele DESCANSO.

Let us not fall into the same example! Let us believe in what God’s Word says. Let us not try to become righteous through our works, since we are already righteous by faith in Jesus. This right believing is our entrance back into that REST.

“Porque Cristo cumpriu todo o proposito da lei. Todos aqueles que crerem nEle sao feitos justos diante de Deus”.  (Romanos 10:4 – NLT Traducao direta Simone van der Merwe)

 “For Christ has accomplished the whole purpose of the law. All who believe in him are made right with God”. (Romans 10:4 NLT).

Jesus nos da a Resposta - Jesus answers our Questions

O ano the 2008 foi meu ultimo ano na Rhema Bible College. Durante a conferencia anual da Rhema Bible Church, Eu fui privilegiada de ouvir as pregacoes do pastor Joseph Prince da New Creation Church, que fica em Singapura. A mensagem que ele trouxe confirmou tudo que eu havia aprendido com o livro do Bob George.

The year of 2008 was my final year at Rhema Bible College. During the annual conference, hosted by Rhema Bible Church, I had the privilege of listen to pastor Joseph Prince from New Creation Church, Singapore. His message confirmed everything I had learnt from Bob George's book.

Nao apenas isso, mas ele apresentou um outro nivel de entendimento com respeito ao que realmente aconteceu atraves do sacrificio de Jesus na cruz. Eu fui completamente impactada pela revelacao genuina que Deus deu ao pastor Prince. Meu desejo e combinar neste blog tudo que eu aprendi com os ensinamentos do Bob George e pastor Prince, da maneira que Deus me direcionar.

Not only that, but he brought a whole new level of understanding with regards to what really happened through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. I was completely blown away by all that genuine revelation God had given pastor Prince. My desire is to combine on this blog everything I have learnt from Bob George and pastor Prince, as God leads me to.

Retornando a ultima questao que eu apresentei: Se a lei era valida ate a vinda do Salvador, por que Jesus disse:

"Não penseis que vim destruir a lei ou os profetas; não vim destruir, mas cumprir". (Mateus 5:17)

Going back to the last question I presented: If the law was only valid until the coming of the Savior, why Jesus Himself said:

”Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them”. (Mathew 5:17)

Como foi apresentado anteriormente, ninguem jamais sera capaz de alcancar os padroes de Deus em relacao a obediencia da lei. Todavia, com o passar do tempo, os lideres religiosos da epoca comecaram a adicionar tradicoes a lei, com o objetivo de tornar “alcancavel” o seu cumprimento. Dessa maneira, eles eram capazes de prestar adoracao com a falsa impressao de que eles estavam justificados perante Deus (o que a Biblia chama de justica propria: Aquela “sensacao boa” que temos quando achamos que Deus esta impressionado com o que fazemos).

It was already stated that nobody will ever be able to achieve God's standards concerning obeying the law. However, as time went by, the religious leaders of that time began to add many traditions to the law, aiming to bring it to a level where it would be "keep-able". That way, they were able to worship with the false idea that they were righteous before God. (which produces self-righteousness: The “I feel good”, because I believe God is impressed by what I am doing).

Esses lideres religiosos, conhecidos como Escribas e Fariseus, estavam sempre por perto quando Jesus estava pregando. Nao era porque eles estavam realmente interessados em receber as palavras de Jesus. Na verdade, eles estavam examinando cada palavra cuidadosamente, procurando por algum motivo para difamar o ministerio de Jesus.

Those religious leaders, known as the Scribes and Pharisees, were always part of the audience when Jesus was preaching. Not because they were really interested in receiving Jesus' words. In fact, they were examining every word very carefully, in order to defame Jesus’ ministry.

Eu tambem acredito que eles tinham inveja por conta da publicidade que Jesus estava atraindo. Eu fico tentando imaginar os Fariseus, dentro da Sinagoga, olhando para meia duzia de pessoas sentadas esperando pelo inicio do “culto”. Quando o Fariseu lider estava prestes a iniciar, um barulho ensurdecedor de uma multidao se aproximando, quebrou o santo silencio. Eu posso imaginar os pensamentos do Fariseu Lider:

I also believe they were jealous, because of the publicity Jesus was drawing to Himself. I can only imagine the Pharisees, inside the Synagogue, looking at a hand full of people seated waiting for the ”service” to start. Just as the senior Pharisee was about to begin, an incredible noise of an approaching multitude, broke the revered silence. I can only imagine what the senior Pharisee was thinking:

 “Eu espero que eles estejam trazendo uma oferta para perdao de pecados. Como podem chegar atrasados para um culto santo? Eu vou fazer questao de que parte das ofertas deles desaparecam, para que Deus nao os perdoe!”

 “I really hope they are bringing an offer for forgiveness. How could they come late for a Holy Service? I will purposefully make sure that some of their offerings get lost, so that God will not forgive them!”

Para a surpresa de todos dentro da Sinagoga, milhares de pessoas, com muita pressa, comecaram a passar pela porta da Sinagoga, indo em direcao ao Mar da Galileia

For their amazement, thousands of people, in a hurry, walked by the Synagogue’s front door, going towards the Sea of Galilee side.

O Fariseu lider nao acreditou no que ele estava vendo:” O que esta acontecendo? O que poderia ser mais importante do que ouvir a pregacao que ele havia preparado? Rapidamente, ele convocou todos os Fariseus que estavam na Sinagoga e eles sairam seguindo a multidao.

The senior Pharisee couldn’t believe what he was seeing: “What is happening? What could be more important than listen to his preaching? He quickly summoned all the other fellow colleagues and followed the crowd.

“O que esta acontecendo? Para onde todos estao indo?” Ele perguntou a um menino.

“What is happening? Where is everybody going?” He asked a boy.

“Nos estamos indo para ouvir Jesus, o carpinteiro! Por 12 anos, a amiga da minha mae tinha um fluxo de sangue. Ela apenas tocou na vestimenta de Jesus e foi completamente curada! A minha mae me mandou ir na frente e guardar lugar na sombra para elas duas. Eu nao tive nem tempo para almocar, mas ela colocou uns 5 paes e 2 peixes aqui na minha marmita.

“We are going to hear Jesus, the carpenter! My mom’s friend had an issue of blood for 12 years. She just touched Jesus clothes and was completely healed! So my mom told me to go ahead and keep a place for both of them under a tree. I didn’t even have time to have lunch, so she packed my basket with 5 loaves of breads and 2 fish!”

A boa noticia da cura de uma mulher que sofreu por 12 anos, nao foi nem notada! Na mente no Fariseu lider, so registrou …

“Um carpinteiro? Eles preferem ouvir as palavras de um carpinteiro do que as minhas?“

Never mind the good news about the healing of a woman that suffered for 12 years! The senior Pharisees’ mind got stuck at …

“A carpenter? They would rather listen to a carpenter then to me!”

Bem, Eu acredito que voce entendeu onde eu estou querendo chegar!

Well, I think you got the picture!

Quando Jesus pregava, ele estava denunciando publicamente o sistema religioso daquela epoca. Ele estava dizendo aqueles lideres religiosos que fe nas boas obras que eles prestavam a Deus nao era suficiente para salva-los do julgamento divino. Jesus queria faze-los entender a necessidade profunda que eles tinham por um Salvador.

When Jesus preached, he was exposing the religious system of that time. He was showing those leaders that faith in their good works were not enough to save them from divine judgment. Jesus wanted them to realize their deep need for a Savior.

Jesus nao poderia acabar com a existencia da lei atraves de um discursso aos seus seguidores. A lei e uma exigencia divina que precisava ser cumprida! Pelo fato do homem ter fracassado em suas tentativas em cumprir a lei,  ele precisava de um Salvador, que nao tivesse cometido nenhum pecado (porque a desobediencia a lei e pecado), para livra-lo da maldicao da lei. JESUS ERA O UNICO CAPAZ DE CUMPRIR A LEI, PORQUE ELE FOI O HOMEM PERFEITO. Ele e PERFEITO como o PAI que esta no ceu e PERFEITO!

Jesus could not abolish the law just by saying a few good words in front of his followers. The law is a divine requirement that needed to be fulfilled! Because Man had failed in his attempts to keep the law, he was in need of a Savior, that would not have committed any sin (for breaking the law is sin), to deliver him from the curse of the law.. JESUS WAS THE ONLY ONE ABLE TO FULFILL THE LAW, BECAUSE HE WAS THE PERFECT MAN. He is PERFECT as the FATHER in Heaven is PERFECT!

Por conseguinte, quando Jesus disse que ELE veio para cumprir a lei, ele quis dizer que ELE veio para cumprir a lei. Desta forma, todos que tivessem fe nEle, fossem libertos das exigencias de Deus, a saber a lei. Nos podemos pensar da seguinte maneira: se voce esta pagando seu carro a prestacao, uma vez que voce cumpriu com seu compromisso financeiro para com a financeira, eu te aconsellho a PARAR de pagar o carro!

Therefore, when Jesus said that he came to fulfill the law, he meant HE came to fulfill the law. So that all of us, who believe in Him, could be set free from that divine requirement, meaning the law. Think that way: If you are paying off your car, once you have fulfilled all the payments I suggest you STOP paying!

O apostolo Paulo colocou desta forma:

The Apostle Paul explains it this way:

Queridos irmaos e irmas, o desejo do  meu coracao e minha oracao a Deus e que os Judeus sejam salvos. Eu sei o entusiasmo que eles tem por Deus, mas e um zelo mal direcionado. Porque eles nao entendem a maneira pela qual Deus nos justifica diante dEle. Ao contrario, eles estao tentando se tornar justos diante de Deus atraves da tentativa de obedecer a lei. Por isso eles rejeitaram a justica de Deus. Porque Cristo cumpriu todo o proposito da lei. Todos que tem fe nele se tornam justos diante de Deus. (Romanos 10:1-4 NLT – Traducao direta por Simone van der Merwe)

Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is that the Jewish people might be saved.  I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal.  For they don't understand God's way of making people right with himself. Instead, they are clinging to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. They won't go along with God's way. For Christ has accomplished the whole purpose of the law. All who believe in him are made right with God. (Romans 10:1-4 NLT)

As pregacoes do pastor Prince me ensinaram que o evangelho nao se traduz em uma tentativa constante em fazer o que e certo, mas sim se traduz em uma tentativa constante em crer no que e certo. Em outras palavras, o trabalho de Deus em nossas vidas comeca de dentro (mente) para fora (atitudes). Se crermos na verdade, a verdade nos libertara (Joao 8:32).

Therefore Christianity is not about doing what is right, it is about believing in what is right. In other words, God’s work in our lives starts from de inside (mind) out (behavior). If we believe in the truth, the truth will set us free (John 8:32).

Resposta as minhas perguntas parte 2 - Answers to my Questions part 2

A resposta que eu precisava eu encontrei no Livro Classic Christianity do Bob George. Ele explica de forma bem simples o proposito com o qual Deus nos deu a Lei:

All the answer I needed I found in the book called “Classic Christianity” by Bob George.  He explains in a simple way God’s purpose in giving the law:

"A Lei e como um espelho; o espelho nos mostra que nosso rosto esta sujo, mas nao e capaz de limpa-lo".

“The law is like a mirror; the mirror shows us that our face is dirty, but it’s not able to clean it.

A Lei foi dada por Deus no Monte Sinai, com DOIS objetivos:

The law was given by God in Mount Sinai, with two purposes:

1. Mostrar a TODOS o quao sujo e cheio de pecados somos. Em outras palavras, a Lei nos faz consciente de que nao temos nenhuma chance de agradar a Deus. Como o Apostolo Paulo nos ensina em Romanos 3:19,20:

1.       To show everyone how dirty and full of sins we are.  In other words, the law made us conscious that we would never be able to please God.  Just as the Apostle Paul teaches us in Romans 3:19,20:

"Ora, nós sabemos que tudo o que a lei diz, aos que estão debaixo da lei o diz, para que se cale toda boca e todo o mundo fique sujeito ao juízo de Deus; porquanto pelas obras da lei nenhum homem será justificado diante dele; pois o que vem pela lei é o pleno conhecimento do pecado". (Negrito meu).

“Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for its purpose is to keep people from having excuses and to bring the entire world into judgment before God. For no one can ever be made right in God's sight by doing what his law commands. For the more we know God's law, the clearer it becomes that we aren't obeying it”. (NLT- Bold by me)

I really like the NLT translation of the portion in bold.

Eu gosto da NLT traducao, da parte em negrito do versiculo acima:

"Porque quanto mais nos conhecemos a lei de Deus, se torna cada vez mais claro que nos nao estamos obedecendo-a".

Uma vez convencidos de que nao estamos a altura dos padroes de Deus, porque falhamos em obedecer a lei, qual seria o proximo passo?

Once convinced that we are not up to t God’s standards, because we have failed in obeying the law, what would be the next step?

2. Reconhecer que precisamos de um Salvador, alguem que fosse capaz de satisfazer TODAS as exigencias de Deus. E atraves da FE nEle fossemos JUSTIFICADOS:

2. To recognize that we need a savior, someone that

would be capable of satisfy ALL of God’s requirements.

And Through FAITH in Him we would be made

righteous:

Galatas 3:24

"De modo que a lei se tornou nosso aio, para nos conduzir a Cristo, a fim de que pela fé fôssemos justificados".

“Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian and teacher to lead us until Christ came. So now, through faith in Christ, we are made right with God”.

 

Na versao original da Biblia (em grego) a palavra "paidagōgos" e usada no lugar de "aio" e significa: um menino lider, que e um servo, cuja tarefa e levar as criancas para escola. (G3816 Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries)

In the original version of the Bible (in Greek) the word  “paidagōgos”  is used in place of “guardian” and it means: “A boy leader, that is, a servant whose office it was to take the children to school”. (G3816 Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries)

Eu gosto da traducao Biblia em Ingles Basico (BBE) da primeira parte desse versiculo que incorpora essa ideia original:

I’d like to share the Bible in Basic English translation of the first part of this verse, because it incorporates the meaning of the original Greek:

"Entao a lei tem sido um servo que nos leva a Cristo (...)".

“So the law has been a servant to take us to Christ (…)”.

Mas se esse e objetivo da Lei, porque o proprio Jesus ensinou a lei? Se a lei era valida ate a vinda do Salvador, por que Jesus disse:

However, if that is the true purpose of the law, why did Jesus teach the law?  If the law was only valid until the coming of the Savior, why Jesus Himself said:

"Não penseis que vim destruir a lei ou os profetas; não vim destruir, mas cumprir". (Mateus 5:17)

"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to fulfill them”. (Mathew 5:17)

Respostas as minhas perguntas - Answers to my questions

Mateus 5 relata o ministerio de Jesus as multidoes. Ele tinha sido batizado por Joao, tentado no deserto, escolhido discipulos. Jesus ja comecava despertar a atencao de muitos com seus ensinamentos e milagres. Nesse dia, Jesus subiu a montanha e comecou a ensinar a todos os seus seguidores.

Matthew chapter 5 describes the ministry of Jesus to the multitudes.  He was baptized by John, he was tempted in the desert, He had chosen his disciples.  Jesus was now drawing the attention of many, with his teachings and miracles.  On that day, Jesus went up a mountain and began to teach his followers.

Durante o discurso de Jesus, relatado nos capitulos 5, 6 e 7 de Mateus, o Mestre dos mestres coloca enfase na obediencia da Lei. Eu acredito que Mateus 5:17-20 pode ser considerado o topico central desses 3 capitulos:

During Jesus’ teachings, recorded in chapters 5, 6 and 7 of Matthew, the Great Teacher emphasizes obedience to god’s law.  I believe that Matthew 5:18-20 can be seen as the summary of those three chapters:

"Não penseis que vim destruir a lei ou os profetas; não vim destruir, mas cumprir.

Porque em verdade vos digo que, até que o céu e a terra passem, de modo nenhum passará da lei um só i ou um só til, até que tudo seja cumprido.

Qualquer, pois, que violar um destes mandamentos, por menor que seja, e assim ensinar aos homens, será chamado o menor no reino dos céus; aquele, porém, que os cumprir e ensinar será chamado grande no reino dos céus.

So if you break the smallest commandment and teach others to do the same, you will be the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But anyone who obeys God's laws and teaches them will be great in the Kingdom of Heaven.

But I warn you -- unless you obey God better than the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees do, you can't enter the Kingdom of Heaven at all”. (NLT)

Neste ultimo versiculo, Jesus esta dizendo que nem os escribas (estudantes da Lei) ou fariseus (lideres religiosos da epoca), com todo o zelo em cumprir a Lei, nao estao a altura do padrao divino em relacao ao cumprimento total da mesma!

In this last verse, Jesus highlights that not even the religious leaders of He’s time, being as zealous as they were in obeying and teaching the law, were not up to God's standard.

Nos versiculos seguintes, Jesus comeca a recitar a Lei como foi dada ao povo de Israel atraves de Moises:

In the following verse, Jesus recites the law as it was given to the people of Israel through Moses:

"Ouviste o que foi dito (...)".

"You have heard that the law of Moses says (…)”.

Contudo, Jesus exalta a Lei para um patamar que reflete as expectativas de Deus com respeito ao cumprimento da mesma, aumentando o "grau de dificuldade":

Nevertheless, Jesus exalts the law to a level that reflects God’s expectations with regards to its fulfillment, “raising the bar”. 

"Eu, porem, vos digo (...)" 

“But I say, (…)”.

E muito interessante que Jesus decidiu ensinar esse topico no topo de uma montanha. Foi no topo do Monte Sinai que a Lei foi dada por Deus a Moises, como esta relatado em Exodo 20 (cerca de 1400 anos antes do nascimento de Jesus). Eu acredito que Jesus estava recriando um cenario, com o objetivo de estabelecer a imutabilidade da Lei.

It is very interesting that Jesus chose the top of a mountain to teach this topic.  It was in the top of Mount Sinai that God gave the law to Moses, as it is recorded in Exodus 20 (about 1400 years before Jesus’ birth).  I believe Jesus was recreating the same scenario, in order to reaffirm how immutable the law is.

Na Biblia Traducao de "Simone Van der Merwe" o Sermao da Montanha (Mateus 5) comecaria assim: "Estamos aqui, no topo dessa montanha... o que eu estou querendo demostrar com isso e que nada mudou, na verdade, Eu vou trazer a verdadeira interpretacao da Lei! Apertem o cinto... e muito mais complicado do que voces imaginaram!"

On the “Simone van der Merwe” Bible translation, the Sermon of the Mount (Mathew 5) would start like this:

“We are here, on top of this mountain… what I am really trying to say with this is that nothing has changed, in fact, I am about to give you the true interpretation of the Law! Fasten your seatbelts… it is much more complicated than what you thought!”

Quem conseguira atingir o padrao divino? Quem conseguira agradar a Deus a altura do que Ele espera de nos?

Who will ever be able to fulfill God’s standards? Who will ever be able to please God based on His expectations towards us?

A resposta e simples: NINGUEM!

The answer is simple: NOBODY!

Mas se NINGUEM e capaz de cumprir a Lei de Deus, Com que objetivo a Lei nos foi dada?

But is NOBODY is able to fulfill God’s Law, with which purpose was the Law given?

A vida na Africa do Sul - Life in South Africa

Eu e o Raphael da Costa chegamos na Africa do Sul dia 21 de Janeiro 2006. Tudo era tao diferente para mim; novo idioma, o volante do carro fica do lado do passageiro (mao inglesa), o clima em Joanesburgo que e muito seco (eu que estava acostumada com a humidade do Rio), o fuso horario (cinco horas de diferenca!). Mas a imensa alegria de ter vencido todos os grandes e pequenos obstaculos, fez com que  todas as dificuldades de adaptacao fossem superadas.

My friend Raphael Costa and I arrived in South Africa on the 21^st of January 2006.  Everything was so different for me: new language, driving in the “wrong side” of the road, the time difference (5 hours ahead of Brazil).  However, the great joy from having a dream coming true, helped me to overcome all cultural shock.

A Rhema Bible College foi um tempo tremendo para mim; aprendi tanto, fiz muitos amigos de varias partes do mundo! Deus realmente cumpriu a promessa de que ele providenciaria tudo, inclusive para a minha vida sentimental! Foi na celula da Rhema Church que eu conheci o David.

Rhema Bible College was a great experience for me.  I learned a lot, I made so many friends from many parts of the world!  God really honored the promise he made me about providing everything, even about giving me the right spouse! I was at Rhema Church home fellowship groups that I met David.

Abrindo um pequeno parenteses em relacao ao David: Antes de eu viajar para a Africa do Sul, minha mae virou do nada e me disse: "voce vai casar com um Holandes." Eu disse para ela "ate parece...eu nao tenho nenhum plano de ir a Holanda.." Bem, eu tive que morder a minha lingua, porque a familia do David e de origem holandesa e o meu sobrenome, "van der Merwe" e  tao comum entre os descendentes holandeses que vivem na Africa do Sul, quanto "Silva" e comum no Brasil J.

I would like to briefly share something about David and I. Before I went to South Africa, out of nowhere my mom came to me and said: “You will marry a Dutch man”.  I told her: “I don’t think so… I don’t have any plans to go to Holland..”. Well, I did not know it wouldn’t be necessary to go to Holland to me to a Dutch man.  David is Dutch descent, and my last name “van der Merwe” is as common among the Dutch descents in South Africa as the Last name “Silva” is common in Brazil.

No meu aniversario em 2006, o David me presenteou com um livro chamado "Classic Christianity" -(Cristianismo Classico) escrito por Bob George. Esse livro foi um marco na minha vida crista. Na verdade o conhecimento que eu adquiri atraves da leitura do livro me libertou para viver a verdadeira vida que Jesus conquistou na cruz!

For for my birthday in 2006, David gave me a book called “Classic Christianity” by Bob George. This book was a turning point in my Christian life. In fact, the knowledge I gained through that book set me free to live the live Jesus conquered on the cross!

Eu fui criada com os ensinamentos da Palavra de Deus. Aos 12 anos eu reconheci Jesus como meu Senhor e Salvador. Mas algo que me incomodava constantemente durante minha jornada espiritual, eram os altos e baixos pelos quais a  minha fe era levada.

I was raised with the teaching of the Word of God. When I was 12 years old I gave my life to Jesus and acknowledge Him as my Lord and Savior. Nonetheless, throughout my spiritual journey, I couldn’t help but notice that my faith was constantly going through up’s and down’s.

Um dos motivos era que eu tentava com todas as minha forcas fazer a vontade de Deus. Mas quando por algum motivo eu me "desviava" dos altos padroes que Deus estabeleceu na Biblia, eu me sentia completamente desqualificada. Esse sentimento gerava pensamentos de condenacao, que me faziam sentir "distante de Deus".

I was really trying with all my might to do God’s will. But when, for some reason, I began to “deviate” from the High standards set by God in the Bible, a feeling of entire disqualification and thoughts of condemnation would flood my entire being, and I would feel as if I was now completely “far” from God.

Contudo, na semana seguinte eu aplicava ainda mais disciplina na minha busca pela presenca de Deus. Com jejum e oracao, deixando de ver TV e filmes... eu tinha a sensacao de que Deus agora estava se agradando do meu "sacrificio". Durante aquela semana eu me sentia tao "perto de Deus".

However, in the following week, I would apply a lot of spiritual discipline during my time of devotion to God. I would fast and pray, stop watching TV and movies… then I would feel as if God was now pleased with my “sacrifice”. For the rest of that entire week, I was sure that I was very “close to God”.

Ate que eu me deparava com as palavras de Jesus, por exemplo, em Mateus 5: 21-22 que diz:

That would work very well until I came across with some of Jesus’ words, for example, in Mathew 5:21-22 that says as follows:

"Vocês ouviram o que foi dito aos seus antepassados: ‘Não matarás’, e ‘quem matar estará sujeito a julgamento’. Mas eu lhes digo que qualquer que se irar contra seu irmão estará sujeito a julgamento. Também, qualquer que disser a seu irmão: ‘Racá’, será levado ao tribunal. E qualquer que disser: ‘Louco! ’, corre o risco de ir para o fogo do inferno."(NIV)

"You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'Do not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment.' But I say, if you are angry with someone, you are subject to judgment! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the high council. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. (NLT)

Ou ainda o versiculo 27-28:

Or the verses 27-28:

"Vocês ouviram o que foi dito: ‘Não adulterarás’.

Mas eu lhes digo: qualquer que olhar para uma mulher para desejá-la, já cometeu adultério com ela no seu coração." (NIV)

"You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.(NLT)

Quando eu lia essas e outras passagens da Biblia, eu pensava comigo: "Pronto, eu vou pro inferno, direto, sem escalas!!" Porque para Deus nao e so o que fazemos que nos desqualifica, mas os nossos pensamentos podem nos desviar dos padroes estabelecidos por Deus.

When I read these, and alike, portions of scriptura, I would think to myself: “Here I go, straight to hell in a non-stop flight!!” Because, based on my readings, It was not only what I did that disqualified me, but my very thoughts made me to fall short from God’s standards.

 Um dia eu estou certa que vou para o ceu. No dia seguinte, por conta de um pensamento que eu tive ou palavras que eu falei... eu estava certa de que se eu nao entrasse em jejum, "crucificasse a minha carne", e orasse pelo menos 1 hora por dia, eu estaria destinada ao julgamento de Deus.

I realized that I was going though an endless pattern: one day I am convinced I am going to spend eternity in heaven. In the following day, because of I word that I spoke or a though that I had… I was persuaded that if I didn’t start “crucifying my flesh” by a series of fasting and praying for at least 1 hour a day, I would be destined for God’s judgment.

Para fechar com chave de ouro,  versiculo 48 de Mateus 5 ...

In closing, I would like to share the verse 48 of Matthew 5:

"Portanto, sejam perfeitos como perfeito é o Pai celestial de vocês". (NIV)

“But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect”. (NLT)

Como eu vou conseguir agradar a Deus, se eu nao consigo ser constante? Perfeito??? quem consegue ser perfeito???

How could I ever please God if I struggle to be constant? Perfect??? Who can be perfect???
